Being a mum to a feisty and brave 18 year old daughter, who is a few weeks away from completing her HSC can sometimes be daunting and overwhelming and I must confess that there are a few insecure moments and larger questions that pop into my mind like “Am I doing, giving, supporting her enough?”. Add on top of that, a full-time career in marketing and social media, carrying out my work as a Health Coach and wholefoods chef and being an author means that my days can be jam-packed with everything, anything and lots in between.
I started my website and wrote my first book Supercharged Food because I wanted to shout from the roof tops to anyone that would listen about how food and our diets are so important in our lives. I had a personal reason too; I’d already successfully used food as medicine to overcome an incapacitating auto immune disease by using nutrient-rich ingredients and wholefoods. It became my mission to help and show others the benefits of making nutritious food choices and now here I am; if you do happen to take a visit to my website you’ll find healthy recipes, a shopping list, meal planner, cooking tips and wellness information. I hope you come and take a look and try out some of the nutritious and healing recipes. My passion for wellness combined with my own story of overcoming obstacles and health challenges has inspired many people to take action. That is one of the key drivers for me to continue doing what I do. I think it’s important as a woman to have courage and step outside your boundaries to make choices which not only benefit you but others and the wider community. I see blogging as a creative outlet and to be able to encourage and motivate others to improve their lives is a fantastic gift.
I recently won a major award for my blog as part of the BUPA Health Influencer awards. Bloggers aren’t always immediately recognised for the work that they do so it’s great to be able to be recognised as an influencer in the health space. It was very exciting to be selected as the overall winner and the winner of the healthy eating category.
Keeping life real
As a spirited mama, my philosophy for whatever I do in my life is to “keep it real”. I have an anti-strategy when it comes to my blog, because I work in marketing and social media and plan strategies all day long for other people and brands. I wanted my personal blog to be different and authentic and a place where people could go and feel connected to others.
Being a spirited mama to me is about going against the conventional and being true to yourself. You won’t find any behind the scenes publishing calendars or strategy documents in my place 🙂 When it comes to my own blog, I write when I feel like it and when I have content that I think will help educate, inform or inspire others and that in itself is very liberating.
